Senior Veterans is on a mission to help veterans and surviving spouses understand available benefits in order to take advantage of them. You may already take advantage of services at your local VA hospital, but health care is only one of many services available to veterans. We are grateful for your service to our country and we are eager to help you get the assistance and funding that has been set aside for our nation's servicemen and women.

What is the Aid and Attendance Benefit?

The Department of Veterans Affairs' Aid & Attendance Program was established by Congress in 1952 under section 38 USC. As a mandatory pension, it is not vulnerable to discretionary budget cuts. The Aid & Attendance Program helps veterans with non-service-related disabilities. Many veterans receive this assistance because of mobility problems in their later years. The program is intended to reimburse veterans and their spouses for daily living assistance, whether you live in your own home or move to an assisted living facility. Here are just a few examples of the types of services that are covered for many veterans:

Who Qualifies for the Aid & Attendance Program?

Veterans and their spouses can either qualify medically or financially for the Aid & Attendance Program. In order to qualify financially, an applicant generally must have less than $127,061 in assets, not counting your home or vehicles. A medical need for assistance with activities of daily living can be established by a primary physician. application also includes financial information like annual income. The DD-214 form (discharge paperwork) is used to show the Veterans active duty service dates. Our team at Senior Veterans is happy to help you through the process. Military Service Requirement

Applying as a veteran, you must have an honorable discharge in order to be eligible. Your service record must include at least 90 days of active duty, and your service must include at least one day during a period of war. Veterans who served during the following wars are currently able to apply for assisted living and other VA benefits.

World War II — December 7, 1941, through December 31, 1946, inclusive. If the veteran was in service on December 31, 1946, continuous service before July 26, 1947, is considered World War II service.

Korean Conflict — June 27, 1950, through January 31, 1955.

Vietnam Era — August 5, 1964, through May 7, 1975. For a veteran who served in the Republic of Vietnam, the period of eligibility begins on February 28, 1961, and ends on May 7, 1975.

Persian Gulf War — August 2, 1990, through a date to be prescribed by Presidential proclamation or law (still open).
